Excellence

A Year To Remember

A Message from director of athletics
drew marrochello

We take pride in attracting students from all over the country and around the globe who love to compete, excel and learn with an eagerness to benefit from our world-class educators and coaches. When we welcome in a new class of Terriers, we encourage a community mindset where individual goals intersect with both team and department goals, pursuing excellence together while supporting one another.

As you will see, 2022-23 was a banner year for Athletics in many areas. All of our programs in the Patriot League finished in the top half of their standings and we claimed three conference titles, including men’s ice hockey, which had a thrilling run to the Frozen Four. Our 3.35 department grade-point average was our highest on record thanks to over 80 percent of the student-athlete body achieving a 3.0. We also had a record-setting fundraising year as over 7,000 gifts were made from individuals who were compelled to contribute to our mission of providing a first-class experience for our Terriers.

I hope you enjoy taking a look back at all of our achievements from this past year and share in our optimism for even more success for the year ahead. This is undoubtedly due to the built momentum combined with the support throughout campus and beyond.

BU captured its 11th Hockey East regular-season title thanks in part to a fantastic record at Agganis Arena. BU went 14-3-0 during the 2022-23 campaign, including a 7-3 quarterfinal win over Vermont that sent the Terriers to the league semifinals.

After winning the program's 10th Hockey East Tournament title, BU defeated both Western Michigan and Cornell in the NCAA Manchester Regional to clinch the program's 23rd Frozen Four appearance.

Q: Why BU?

Lots of reasons! In short, BU offers a world-class academic and athletic environment in one of the most dynamic cities in the world. I was also particularly struck by BU's founding principles and focus on service of the wider community.

Q: Favorite lunch spot?

There are so many to choose from! Life Alive and Otto Pizza are two of the best near the pool.

Q: Current favorite workout song?

Depends on the workout, but anything from Beyonce’s album “Renaissance” will usually do the trick.

Q: Last book you read?

As a past double major in English and Writing, two of my recent favorites have been the novel Less by Andrew Sean Greer and the memoir Taste by Stanley Tucci.

Q: Favorite way to get around Boston?

I love jumping on my bike to get around and see different Boston neighborhoods, and to get some great views along the Charles.

We are committed to providing a first-class experience at our world-class institution. We embrace the institutional mission, prioritize academics, and recruit students who believe that earning a BU degree is a primary goal. We pursue excellence in all endeavors. We empower students to develop them into successful leaders. We strive to win with honor and integrity

while competing for League and National

Championships. We devote to being an

integral part of the campus

community by immersing our athletes

into the student body

and the BU experience.

We promote an inclusive

environment and treat everyone

with respect and dignity.

We believe that intercollegiate

demanding and rigorous -

should remain essentially fun.

We consider our coaches and

staff to be educators and mentors

who look beyond the athletic ability

of our students and care for their overall

standard of excellence amongst our peer

well-being. We aspire to be the

NCAA Division I athletic departments.

We engage in the community and are mindful of the impact that we can have on others. We serve as a source of spirit and pride for our campus, fostering lifetime connections to our University. We value a family culture through meaningful relationships across the department.

We succeed when our students would choose to be Terriers again.

We are proud to be Boston University's Department of Athletics
